How To Be A Peacebuilder Club

District 6080: You Can Be A Peacebuilding Club!

What is a peacebuilder club?

A PEACEBUILDER club is one that consciously chooses to focus on peace and assist in furthering Rotary’s mission to “enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace.” PEACEBUILDER clubs help build stronger, more harmonious communities. They do this by:

  • initiating service projects that have a primary focus on PEACEBUILDING,
  • providing educational opportunities in their local community,
  • attending seminars and other educational programs,
  • participating in PEACE CENTERED discussion groups;
  • initiating or participating in global projects for PEACEBUILDING,
  • AND supporting PEACE scholars.

There are many ways you can build peace!

Why would we want to be one?

Fulfilling Rotary’s Mission: Peace has always been part of Rotary’s mission. Especially in our partisan times Rotarians can enhance peace by modeling civility and helping their communities work through polarizing issues. Locally, nationally, and internationally, promoting peace can help build a better future for all.

Attract New Members: Many future Rotarians — especially younger ones — are looking to make a difference and learn new skills. The opportunities and resources available through RAGFP make it easy to teach new skills. And peace-building projects help your members put those new skills to work in ways that strengthen your community.

Increase Focus and Member Engagement: The peacebuilding lens can help your club review, refocus, and re-energize projects you have historically done.

Access District Operating Funds: : When one member of your new peacebuilding committee joins RAGFP ($50 Annual Membership) District 6080 will reimburse the $50 cost of a second membership. BOTH members must commit to completing the online ROTARY POSITIVE PEACE course (https://rotarypositivepeace.orgpeace.org/) that takes approximately 2 ½ to 4 HRS to complete and has been made available to the clubs at no cost.

Access District Designated Funds For Local Peacebuilding Projects: To access District Funds, your club must first be designated as a peacebuilder club and meet the criteria noted above. PEACEBUILDER CLUBS MAY APPLY FOR A DISTRICT GRANT FOR QUALIFIED PEACEBUILDING PROJECTS AND IF APPROVED, MAY BE AWARDED UP TO $500 USING DISTRICT DESIGNATION FUNDS (DDF). APPLICATION AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS ARE SIMILAR TO DISTRICT SIMPLIFIED GRANTS (DSG).

How do we apply to become a Peacebuilder Club?

You must have a Peacebuilder Committee, commit to having TWO POSITIVE PEACE TRAINED PEACEBUILDERS, and meet the Peacebuilder Club criteria of RAGFP. After your board accepts the RAGFP standards for Peacebuilder Clubs and approves a Peacebuilder Committee (minimum number 2) you can fill out a Peacebuilder Club application and submit it to the Rotary Action Group For Peace (RAGFP).
