Rotary Hurricane Harvey Relief

Rotary Hurricane Harvey Relief

Dear Rotarians,

Greg Yank, Rotary International Director for Zones 30 and 31, has written to request contributions to help flood victums in Texas and/or Louisiana. I am pasting Greg’s email below so that you have the full text. I have sent this information below to all club presidents and have asked them to share it with their club members.

Melvin Platt
Governor
Rotary District 6080

To Governors Zone 30-31:

As you know Hurricane Harvey made land fall in Texas and has left significant devastation. The amount of flooding has surpassed any recorded accounts. In the coming days, southern Louisiana will see even more flooding due to ongoing rains. The search and rescue for this disaster is underway and the relief efforts will begin soon. Clubs, districts, and individuals are asking the best way to assist the victims and communities affected by Hurricane Harvey. The best way to address the biggest needs can best be met with monetary donations.

At this time, I want to remind our districts and clubs of the outstanding record Rotary holds for being good shepherds of funds and donations. All contributions will be designated to victims and communities of the hurricane and its disastrous floods. As in all disasters of this magnitude, those wanting to help are asking where to send funds. Rotary District 6200 has a 501c3 Foundation that can receive disaster funds. The Rotary District 6200 Foundation was established prior to Hurricane Katrina and has proven to be an effective and transparent way to accept and distribute funds especially in disastrous events of this magnitude.

District 6200 DG Martha Collins and District 6200 Foundation Chair PDG Mike Collins have agreed to help Rotarians and likeminded benefactors with their donations toward hurricane victims. Mike and Martha are in the process of assembling a representative advisory board to determine use of funds. This board, to include Directors and representatives from Texas and Louisiana, will ensure that funds will be used in credible ways to assist those in the disaster areas including Texas and Louisiana. The proven method of disbursement of the funds used successfully following Hurricane Katrina will be employed by this board as well. The administrative costs will be minimal.

Make checks payable to The Rotary District 6200 Foundation with Hurricane Harvey Relief in the memo line. Please designate if you want these funds just for Texas, just for Louisiana or “all affected area.”

Send checks to:

Zone 21b & 27 Rotary Governors, as you have heard in the news Hurricane Harvey has dealt a heavy blow to the Southern part of Texas the extent of which we have yet to learn – things like flooded homes, schools like Rockport and Aransas Pass being partially destroyed, businesses wiped out, etc. As your Zone Disaster Chairman I have gathered from the three main Rotary districts affected by the Hurricane information on where to send any monetary aid you can gather up from your clubs and fellow Rotarians to help those in need. I am also including the three names of the District Governors affected that will be getting requests from their areas’ clubs for help. This way our fellow Rotarians will make sure the money is spent in the best way possible in their area. If you have any questions feel free to contact me or one or more of the three District Governors. Please get the information sent to your districts clubs by Monday so the information can be given out to club members starting Monday.
