PDG Mark Pearce once again, reiterating the “call for applications” for the open District Governor Nominee-Designate (DGN-D) position, which will determine the governor for our district during the 2017-18 Rotary year.
The current Governor succession is as follows:
2014-15 Michael Beahon (deceased) – Fulton Rotary Club
Joe Beltz (a Past District Governor and filling the term of Mike Beahon) – Mountain View Rotary Club
2015-16 Steve Dulle – Columbia South Rotary Club
2016-17 David Bixler (chosen to fill an unexpired term) – Springfield Metro Rotary Club
2017-18 To be determined
The application period for District Governor for the Rotary Year 2017-18 is now open and will remain so through September 30, 2014.
As a reminder, a five member committee – consisting of myself, IPDG Ken Messer and three current club presidents chosen by random drawing – will interview each of the qualified candidates and make the selection for confirmation at the next 6080 District gathering or, if necessary, through an e-mail process.
It is our intent to have the nominee chosen in time for presentation at the District Conference November 1st, though the opportunity for candidate interviews will have to fall into place in early October to make that happen.
To nominate a candidate, fill out the application form signed by the candidate and endorsed by the secretary of the candidate’s home club. I would also like for the candidates, themselves, to submit a 1-2 page summary of their leadership and Rotary experiences, and other reasons why they feel they are a particularly strong candidate for office. A 1-2 page statement may not afford a full listing of the candidate’s qualifications, but further opportunity to share such information will be provided during the interview process.

Submission deadline: All nomination forms and statements must be postmarked by September 30, 2014.
I would suggest that anyone considering submitting themselves for nomination should seek the counsel of a Past District Governor to discuss the rewards, challenges and responsibilities that are involved with the position. Consideration of such matters will help prepare the candidate for the interview process and, ultimately, for service as District Governor.
