Looking Back at Joplin’s Killer Tornado

It was two years ago that a massive EF-5 tornado tore through Joplin, Missouri killing 161 people and leaving thousands of homes, businesses, schools and churches in shambles. Joplin Globe reporters were forced into immediate action – many times uncertain as to the fate of their immediate family members, friends and possessions. The film documentary “Deadline in Disaster” is a testament to their dedication in covering the unexpected and unfathomable disaster and its aftermath. The film foreshadows many of the impacts, emotions and challenges that will be experienced by residents of Moore, Oklahoma in the coming weeks.

Public television stations KMOS-TV (which covers the northern half of District 6080) and Ozarks Public Television (which covers the southern half of District 6080) will be broadcasting the film this week.

  • KMOS-TV (channel 6.1) will air “Deadline in Disaster” Wednesday evening, May 22 at 8:00 pm.
  • OPT (channel 21.1) will broadcast the program Thursday evening, May 23 at 8:00 pm and Sunday, May 26 at 5:00 pm.
