In the mid 1980s, Polio was virtually eliminated from the United States and several other “First World” nations; but the virus still infected an estimated 338,000 people annually, leaving death, disfigurement and permanent disability in its wake. It was about that time that Rotary International and individual Rotary clubs around the world took on the bold task of eliminating Polio from the face of the Earth.
Rotary clubs the world over are annually invited to participate in a recognition program that provides initiative, identity and direction for the global organization; this is the Presidential Citation process. The district’s nominating committee met Saturday morning, January 26, 2013, and selected Stephen M. (Steve) Dulle* as District Governor Nominee-designate. The progressive designation means that Steve will progress through the governors line over the next two years to officially assume the role of Governor on July 1, 2015.
I am proud to have the privilege to introduce to you our District Governor Nominee, Mike Beahon; though Mike has been visiting so many clubs and attending so many Rotary special events over the past year, most of you probably already know him.
