November Letter from District Governor Mark Pearce

November 2012

Over 220 Rotarians attend the District Conference in Branson this past month, and I’ve yet to run into anyone who wasn’t pleased by the fellowship, conversations, speakers and informative break-out sessions that filled the agenda.

We got to meet sixteen Youth Exchange high school students studying in our district and discovered what these upstanding, international guests liked most about Missouri. We were introduced to the Group Study Exchange team from Panama, and we met Gianinna Caceres from Panama, the Rotary Sterling Scholar studying Computer Information Systems at the University of Central Missouri.

Roy Rogers Junior – Dusty – at 2012 District Conference
We heard presentations from North Carolinian John T. Capps, who has attended more than thirty Rotary International Conferences and has brought in over 100 new Rotary members in his many years of service. Roy Rogers, Jr. related numerous stories from his childhood, growing up in the household of America’s favorite western couple – Roy Rogers and Dale Evans; and Roy Jr.’s emphasis upon the importance of family brought tears to many eyes.

We collected three pallets full of crutches, wheel chairs, clothing, sports equipment, books and school supplies for delivery to impoverished families in Panama. We honored our conference host community by packing 55 bags with home hygiene products for distribution through Taney County Social Services. We learned about the District’s new Disaster Relief committee that clarifies the process in which Rotarians can respond with time or resources through Rotary District channels.

That’s a lot. But even if you weren’t there, YOU can be a part of it too. YOU can join in the Rotary fellowship. YOU can find new and interesting ways to help others to stand on their own and to face life confidently and bravely.

Your next opportunity is to join with Rotary friends – those you know and those you do not yet know – at the Rotary Foundation Banquet, November 17th at the Country Club Resort at Lake Ozark.
