Disaster Relief and Reconstruction

Most people are unfamiliar with the conflict and confusion that occurs between relief organizations in the aftermath of a major disaster. Rotary Peace Fellow Akis Kalaitzidis learned about this from firsthand accounts, and he relates some of the instances in his latest blog.

$36,000 To Go

If District 6080 is to reach $300,000 in Annual Program Fund contributions this year – allowing for us to allocate $150,000 toward locally directed projects in fiscal year 2015-16 – then we’ve got $36,000 more dollars in contributions that need to come in to The Rotary Foundation by June 30.

“Doing Good in the World” is the motto of The Rotary Foundation, which was conceived by Rotarian Arch Klumph. The Bequest Society was established to recognize our support for the Permanent Fund of The Rotary Foundation through bequests – gifts at death. The Bequest Society’s growing membership includes Rotarians, family members, and friends who have each committed to give $10,000 or more in their estate plans to The Permanent Fund of The Rotary Foundation.

The Rwanda Project

We have worked out the tentative project cost based on 500 surgeries during ten days. Fortunately cost is coming out to be less than what was earlier anticipated and hopefully we may be able to manage within US$ 150,000. I am hoping that we will get support of The Rotary Foundation to the extent of US$ 65,000 – 70,000. The rest we will have to manage ourselves.
