55th Annual Student Government Day A Success

One of the Rotary Club of Jefferson City’s signature service projects to area youth is its annual Student Government Day. High school students from Jefferson City and across the 6080 District are nominated by their teachers or local Rotarians to attend a half-day program that provides the students with a unique and more personal view of State government in Jefferson City.  This year’s participants in the April 16th event included about 130 students from Jefferson City, Columbia, Rolla, Fulton, Salem, Pulaski County, Laurie, Fayette, Buffalo, and Bolivar.

State MDA Ambassador speaks at Rotary Club of Pulaski County

Emily Crabtree, the Goodwill Ambassador for the State of Missouri for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), gave a presentation about the benefits of and fun at MDA summer camp to the RotaryClub of Pulaski County (Club #58661 of District 6080) last month. As the Missouri State Goodwill Ambassador, Crabtree makes public appearances throughout Missouri. She is the daughter of Steve and Tara Crabtree of Pulaski County.

Local collaboration with Missouri Guard brings clean water to Panama

You can be especially proud of your personal efforts to help poor and destitute populations in Panama over the past two years through the contribution of well-baby kits, water filtration systems, slightly used clothing and hand-driven mobility carts. During DG Rita Esterly’s administration, a committee was formed to launch a humanitarian project for that country. James Wieberg from the Jefferson City Breakfast club was named chair, and the project has continued with several waves of collection and commitment since.

Jefferson City Rotary Club’s Annual Student Government Day Details

This year Student Government Day is scheduled during the legislative session and the students will likely be able to observe the traditionally lively Mid-April floor debates. In addition, we have added a meeting with executive branch agencies to the agenda. The students will get to observe and experience each branch of State Government – the executive, legislative and judicial.
